Meet your therapist:
Dr. Sunel Vanderwalt, PT, DPT.
Hello, thank you for visiting! I am Sunel, an orthopedic, manual, and pelvic floor physical therapist. I will be your guide to help you along this journey toward better health! I am easy to get along with, will make you feel comfortable from the get-go, and will have no problem discussing uncomfortable subjects.
I grew up in South Africa, and our family immigrated to the USA when our two kids were little. I have an accent that you will hear more clearly on a Friday.
I have a doctorate in physical therapy and have worked in various settings in South Africa and America. Working with people, especially children in home health, was a highlight of my career. I also have great memories of providing physical therapy to an international rugby team during the Rugby World Cup and to athletes participating in the Comrades ultra-marathon in South Africa.
I feel deeply rooted in the Land of Enchantment and have lived in NM twice, first in Silver City, then moved away, and now back in Albuquerque. My other passions are wildlife gardening, native plants, and observing birds, insects, and other desert visitors in our garden.
I am looking forward to meeting you!
The Trailhead Pelvic & Visceral Physical Therapy Story
Trailhead is the point at which the trail begins.
"May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears." Nelson Mandela
Dr. Sunel Vanderwalt founded Trailhead Pelvic & Visceral Physical Therapy to assist people experiencing orthopedic or pelvic health dysfunction. She has a particular passion for male pelvic health and bowel/GI dysfunction after her dad suffered for years in silence from a bowel disorder before seeking the help he needed. She understands the embarrassment and anxiety accompanying pelvic/bowel disorders.
She aimed to establish a space where you can receive quality care for challenging conditions. Her goal was that through this clinic, you will find a guide, a roadmap, and a vision to help you on your journey towards better health. Most importantly, someone to celebrate your success with you along the way!
Combining her years of experience as a PT, an attitude of lifelong learning, and personal pelvic floor dysfunction, Dr. Sunel feels that it is her calling to help people deal with conditions no one wants to talk about.
"One cannot be prepared for something while secretly believing it will not happen."
Please join us at Trailhead Pelvic & Visceral Physical Therapy, where all genders and ages are welcome!
