Meet Dr. Sunel Vanderwalt, PT, DPT
Hello, thank you for visiting! I am Sunel, an orthopedic, manual, and pelvic floor physical therapy specialist. I grew up in South Africa, and our family immigrated to the USA when our two kids were little. I have an accent that you will hear more clearly on a Friday.
I have a bachelor’s and a doctorate in physical therapy and have worked in various settings in South Africa and America. My clinical experience includes pediatrics, sports injuries, orthopedics, neurology, neck/back pain, outpatient, the hospital environment, and a big love - home health.
Working with people, especially children in home health, was a highlight of my career. I also have great memories of providing physical therapy to an international rugby team during the Rugby World Cup and to athletes participating in the Comrades ultra-marathon in South Africa.
I feel deeply rooted in the Land of Enchantment and have lived in NM twice, first in Silver City, then moved away, and now back in Placitas. My other passions are wildlife gardening, native plants, and observing birds, insects, and other desert visitors in our garden.

Having been able to help people through physical therapy throughout my career has been such a blessing. Then I suffered from pelvic floor dysfunction. I spent hours online and was frustrated that I still did not know what to do, even as a physical therapist. I expanded my knowledge by studying pelvic floor therapy. I also fell in love with the manual therapy skill of visceral manipulation, which changed how I treat as a physical therapist forever.
Combining my years of experience as a PT, an attitude of lifelong learning, and personal pelvic floor dysfunction, I feel that it is my calling to help people deal with conditions no one wants to talk about.
